Represent denominational interests in the chaplaincy and military-related services

How we serve

Promote, support and train Adventist chaplains
Oversee the process of ecclesiastical endorsement
Extend the Gospel into the greater community through the ministry of Adventist chaplains
Serve as liaison with official government and professional agencies
Develop plans, programs, and resources to prepare for future contingencies
Ensure pastoral care and religious support is provided for church members in special situations
Administer internal department business
The National Service Organization is the official military relations office of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Its primary mission is to provide pastoral care and religious resources to support the spiritual well-being of Seventh-day Adventist military personnel.

Two key positions, director and associate director, on the NAD Adventist Chaplaincy Ministries team have been filled with familiar names. On April 7, the NAD committee voted the name of assistant director Washington Johnson II to serve as director; and assistant director Gilda Roddy was promoted to associate director.

War is a tragedy — the loss of life, displacement of people, destruction of the environment, disease and other aftereffects make it more than a devasting event. As we commemorate the twentieth anniversary of 9/11 and reflect on the recent withdrawal of the U.S. military forces in Afghanistan, ending the nation’s longest war, one might wonder if this could possibly have been the war to end all wars.

First Female Seventh-day Adventist Chaplain Promoted to U.S. Army Reserve Lieutenant Colonel

Wanda Acevedo became the first Hispanic Seventh-day Adventist woman to be promoted to lieutenant colonel in the United States Army Reserve during a special ceremony at Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico, on April 28, 2021. With this rank, Acevedo becomes the deputy command chaplain overseeing all religious support and chaplaincy teams that serve more than 5,000 soldiers at the base.

Historic Promotion Makes Andrew Harewood First Adventist and African American Chaplain to Reach General Rank in US Army Reserve

On Nov. 1, 2020, Col. Andrew Harewood was promoted to general officer upon accepting the position of deputy chief of chaplains for the United States Army Reserve, making him the first Adventist and the first African American chaplain to become a general in the Army Reserve. With the promotion, he is the third Adventist chaplain in the U.S. military to reach the general rank.
